No Ordinary Name

“…And you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save His people from their sins.” — Matthew 1:21 NKJV

What makes the name Jesus so special that, over the past 2000 years, more people have come to hear and know of the name more than any other name on earth?

What is so great about the name Jesus that millions pray, worship, sing songs to and invoke the name again and again?

It is not so much about the name but who is behind the name. The name of Jesus represents all His finished work on the cross. It fulfils God’s divine plan of redemption and salvation. The name represents victory over sin and death, over the devil’s schemes, and his entire realm.

In the olden days, people could speak or act in the name of someone because the name represents authority and power. Jesus Christ has given Christians the right and authority to use His name:

“And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” John 14:13-14 (NKJV)

“…Whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.” John 16:23-24 (NKJV)

The name Jesus is more than just a name. When you believe in Jesus Christ, you are saved and have life in His name (John 20:31). There is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we can be saved (Acts 4:12). For God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:9-11). God raised Jesus from the dead, elevated Him to His right hand, and gave Jesus a name above “every name that is named, not only in this age but that which is to come.” (Ephesians 1:20-21).

  • In the name of Jesus, we have victory
  • In the name of Jesus demons submit and flee
  • In the name of Jesus, we worship and praise
  • The name of Jesus is high and lifted up above all powers and principalities
  • The name of Jesus is powerful
  • The name of Jesus is wonderful
  • The name of Jesus is mighty to save
  • The name of Jesus is Mighty in battle

The name of Jesus means “Yahweh is Salvation”. Make that connection and put your faith in the name for salvation today.

Merry Christmas and Stay blessed,

  1. Yeshua – The Hebrew Name For Jesus | Christian Learning & News Dear LaraLex, I read your posts on The Biblical Watchman fb page and thoroughly enjoy your weekly offerings. I am sure you must be aware that Jesus is the transliterated name of Yeshua. Most believers say, “Why does it matter?” And in one sense, this is true…..the world knows His Name in many languages. However, there is an important reason to consider regarding this…..It is contained in the article linked above under the section “The Importance of the Hebrew Name”. And so, when the angel of the Lord spoke to Joseph in a dream, telling him of the amazing destiny of the Child in the womb of his betrothed, he said, “She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Yeshua, for he will save his people from their sins.” It is the word “Yeshua” that means “Yahweh is salvation”.
