Bring my soul out of prison that I may praise Your name… — Psalms 142:7 (NKJV)
I recently watched a movie titled “Mountain Top”. In one of the scenes, a man was arrested for alleged embezzlement of church funds and was remanded in custody pending court hearing.
His attorney visited him in jail to get some information and background to his arrest. The lawyer was very reluctant to take up the case and represent him because he hadn’t practiced for over six years.
The jailed man in an attempt to encourage the lawyer said, “We can help each other.” The lawyer replied, “You are the one in jail not me.” The accused man replied to his unwilling lawyer and said, “There’s all kinds of jails, the worse is being prisoner of your own thoughts…”
That statement led me to the scripture where Jesus said: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me, To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” Luke 4:18-19 (NKJV)
This scripture got me thinking of different situations and circumstances we find ourselves which can lead us to become prisoners of those situations or events.
Many are imprisoned by the thought of what happened to them many years ago either as a child or as an adult. Some are prisoners of the negative things their teacher or parents said to them. Some cannot get over what someone they trusted did to them.
You may be the one that is imprisoned by doubt. You always doubt yourself and your ability, lacking confidence in yourself. You work extremely hard, do your absolute best, but you always doubt and question yourself whether what you’ve done is good enough. You even sometimes doubt your salvation! This often robs you of your peace, joy, and wellbeing.
Maybe you’re imprisoned by fear. You fear that something bad will happen to you or your loved ones. Job said, “What I always feared has happened to me. What I dreaded has come true. I have no peace, no quietness. I have no rest; only trouble comes.” Job 3: 25 –26 (NLT)
There are many who are imprisoned by anger, jealousy, a critical spirit, by past mistakes, past wrong done to them, unforgiveness and bitterness. This does not have to continue!
I am aware that this message may trigger a sad and uncomfortable memory for some of our readers. The intention of Hills and Valleys is always to bring encouragement, comfort, and release to all our readers through the word of God.
Hear what the LORD said about Jesus’ mandate – “I, the Lord, have called You in righteousness, And will hold Your hand; I will keep You and give You as a covenant to the people, As a light to the Gentiles, To open blind eyes, To bring out prisoners from the prison, Those who sit in darkness from the prison house.” Isaiah 42:6-7 (NKJV)
Jesus is still in the business of releasing prisoners from prisons. Today, God want to free you from whatever prison you may be in. It is the Father’s desire and good will that we’re released and freed from every kind of prison.
Stay blessed.

Just what I needed today! Some times I doubt myself, sometimes I doubt Gods love for me when I find myself struggling so hard to attain what others get effortlessly. Your words today have encouraged me. And I have come out of this prison and will move ahead enjoying the kingdom of God which is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Do have a wonderful day ahead in Jesus name.
