Rainbow in the Clouds (New Heavens and a New Earth) – Part 4

The rainbow should remind us of the need to consider the choices we make. We live in a world that is broken by sin. All creation groans in distress and is in desperate need of redemption.

Redeeming the earth is not in the hands of man. It is not through more clever and intelligent human creative imaginations. The earth’s redemption is down to God and Him alone.

The recently concluded COP26 climate conference in Glasgow, Scotland, saw world leaders and other proponents of climate change deliberate on how to “save” the planet. They’re worried that if we don’t do enough for the environment, this earth, as we know it, will not be here in the next 50 years or so.

Well, they are right to some extent. God promised new heavens and a new earth literally!

But before the new heavens and new earth, this earth as we know it, will have to be purged, purified, and cleansed of all sin, evil, injustice, corruption, and wickedness. And there isn’t much anyone can do about it!

The prophet Isaiah captured God’s heart concerning the new heavens and new earth when he prophesied saying:

“Look! I am creating new heavens and a new earth, and no one will even think about the old ones anymore. Be glad; rejoice forever in my creation! …And the sound of weeping and crying will be heard in it no more. No longer will babies die when only a few days old. No longer will adults die before they have lived a full life. No longer will people be considered old at one hundred! Only the cursed will die that young! In those days people will live in the houses they build and eat the fruit of their own vineyards. Unlike the past, invaders will not take their houses and confiscate their vineyards. For my people will live as long as trees, and my chosen ones will have time to enjoy their hard-won gains…The wolf and the lamb will feed together. The lion will eat hay like a cow…In those days no one will be hurt or destroyed on my holy mountain. I, the Lord, have spoken!” Isaiah 65:17-25 (NLT)

The Apostle Peter also warned saying, “…Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment… On that day, he will set the heavens on fire, and the elements will melt away in the flames. But we are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth he has promised, a world filled with God’s righteousness.” 2 Peter 3:10-13 (NLT)

He further stated, “Since everything around us is going to be destroyed like this, what holy and godly lives you should live…while you are waiting for these things to happen, make every effort to be found living peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in his sight.” 2 Peter 3:11,14 (NLT) It is important to state here that God desires that no one be destroyed. But rather, He wants everyone to repent and be part of the new heavens and new earth.

God was not wrong about the flood. We can be certain that He will not be wrong about the literal new heavens and new earth. Do you want to be part of it?

Stay blessed,
