Pray, Plan but Make That Move

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the people to get moving! Pick up your staff and raise your hand over the sea. Divide the water so the Israelites can walk through the middle of the sea on dry ground.” Exodus 14:15-16 (NLT)

Moses was at the edge of the Red Sea not knowing what to do, crying out to God.

Sometimes God expects us to wait on Him for further instruction and sometimes He expects us to make a move. On this occasion, He expected Moses to encourage or motivate the people to move forward.

One thing I’ve come to realise is that God is always faithful. He is faithful to show us great and mighty things which He expects us to take forward and act on.

I have also realised that a lot of the ideas God gives us never get acted upon at all or at least not on time. Whether they are ministry, business, or career type ideas, we are sometimes content to “keep praying” for God to show us the way. For Him to lead us, to give us boldness, without us taking that much needed first step.

Please hear what I’m not saying. I’m not saying don’t pray, or don’t plan. What I’m saying is that I sense God sometimes expects us to step out in faith while we pray and plan. (Speaking to myself here!)

In Genesis 24, Abraham instructed his servant to go to his hometown and to his relatives to seek a wife for his son Isaac. The servant did not stay behind praying that God would show him the way. He did not wait around for God to give him a picture of the lady for Isaac. While he was on his way, and no doubt praying all along the way, God led him to Rebecca.

Some have a passion for a cause, an idea or plan to develop a particular life interest. Others have heard from God about a particular direction He wants them to take. The question to ask is, why haven’t you pursued or developed your plan or interest further? What is the excuse or reason? Is the vision not clear enough or is it fear?

Maybe you have drawn up a checklist that you believe must all be ticked off before you make that move.  Maybe you want more details or revelation from God. Or maybe you believe the blank spaces must be filled before you make a move. In fact, you may have altogether given up on a God-given idea or inspiration because of fear.

Some have altogether shelved ideas because it’s not overtly evangelical in nature. Let us remember that God is sovereign. He can use anyone, anything and any location to further His purpose here on earth.

God is saying to you today, “Stop your procrastination! Stop wasting time by saying I’m ‘waiting on the Lord’. Take that bold step and move forward! Have faith and exercise it.”

Trust God and believe in Him. He will be waiting on the other side. He promised that He will not leave you, He will not forsake you.

Stay blessed,
