…The Kingdom of Heaven is like a farmer who planted good seed in his field. But that night as the workers slept, his enemy came and planted weeds among the wheat, then slipped away… “Let both grow together until the harvest. Then I will tell the harvesters to sort out the weeds, tie them into bundles, and burn them, and to put the wheat in the barn.” Matthew 13:24-29 (NLT)
A parable literally means “placing side by side”. It’s a simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson. It’s an earthly story with supernatural or heavenly meaning.
The church is made up of believers and non-believers, true believers and counterfeit or fake believers. The problem is that you cannot tell them apart. Unless they openly speak against the Church or the Word of God, they’re very hard to identify. They all dress the same, speak the same “church language” and do all the usual “Christian” stuff!
One thing I’ve come to realise and understand about human beings is that we are very creative and clever with words. The Church has been positively blessed with teachers and songwriters who demonstrate this. Unfortunately, there are also people with creative and clever words who have found their way into the universal Body of Christ not to bless her but to plant weeds among the good seeds.
We have in the church custodians of the Word and influential leaders who have yielded to compromise and re-interpreting sections of the Bible. They contradict or water down the seriousness of the Word of God on teachings such as marriage and relationships to mention a few.
They think or believe that certain teachings of the Bible are outdated and does not meet our 21st century ways of life. They seek to “rewrite” the Bible to conform to our modern lifestyle!
“Forever O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven.” Psalms 119:89 (NKJV); “The very essence of your words is truth; all your just regulations will stand forever.” Psalms 119:160 (NLT)
At harvest time the weeds will be gathered, placed together, and burned. On judgement day, all fake or counterfeit believers will face the judgement of Christ and true believers will spend eternity with Him.
“Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’” Matthew 7:21-23 (NLT)
We can glean a positive message from the above parable. As citizens of the Kingdom of God, we need to constantly and continuously nurture the Word of God (good seed) that we’ve heard. Jesus is our perfect role model, and we must make Him our single focus of attention.
Prayer: O Lord God, please do not let me be a weed among the wheat. Do not let me be a fake or counterfeit believer among true believers. Help me to uphold the truth of Your word always and unashamedly. Teach me to centre my life in You and Your name only. Amen
Stay blessed,
