There is a Shaking

Man has always believed that he is in control and has the answer and solution to every problem or situation. But time and time again, it has been proven that we are not in contol and don’t have the answer to a lot of life’s issues.

The truth is God has richly blessed us with intelligence, knowledge, and wisdom, but God does not want us to use these independent of Him.

Human wisdom is seen in action. From the tower of babel project, the various historical and modern wars, science, and technology including the latest in Artificial Intelligence.

We attempt to solve or find solutions to issues mainly from our human standpoint. Man has always believed and trusted in himself, his knowledge and education. We put faith and trust in science and technology, believing that in these explains life and lies the solution to some life’s issues.

So where does God feature in our plans? What place have we given to God in our policymaking and in our strategising? We have excluded God from our governments, schools, science, businesses etc. Some have even gone as far as to deny the existence of God!

No wonder the “kingdoms” of this world and the “kingdoms” we are building don’t seem to stand or last. These kingdoms are built on a fragile, shaky foundation.

“Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking. For if the people of Israel did not escape when they refused to listen to Moses, the earthly messenger, we will certainly not escape if we reject the One who speaks to us from heaven!‘Once again I will shake not only the earth but the heavens also.’ This means that all of creation will be shaken and removed, so that only unshakable things will remain. Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe.” Hebrews 12:25-28 (NLT)

The banking crisis of 2007 is a classic example of the shaky kingdom of this world. It is a testament to the frailty and vulnerability of these financial systems and institutions.

Lessons from the financial crisis brought together leading minds in the worlds of finance and academia to dissect the crisis. To debate and deliberate on finding valuable insights into what must be done to avoid future crisis.

The truth is, looking to financial systems, corporate organisations, government, religious institutions, science and technology, for stability and sustenance, is like walking on ice. It’s like building our hope on a fragile and shaky foundation. It is a recipe for a painful disappointment and heartbreak.

The outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic has brought to light some interesting facts about how we lived. It has revealed the vulnerability of man. We are not the super-humans we sometimes make out to be. No matter who we are – rich, poor, educated, uneducated – we are all vulnerable.

The pandemic has also revealed the uncertainty of life. “Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.” Psalms 90:12 (NLT). The English Standard Version (ESV) puts it like this, “So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.” Nobody knows tomorrow, we can’t say tomorrow we will do this or that. We need to include God in all our planning and projects.

The pandemic revealed the credibility of the Bible, the sufficiency of Jesus and the urgency of salvation. “The entirety of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.” Psalms 119:160 (NKJV)

We are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, the Kingdom of God.

Let us continue to stake our hope, trust, confidence and faith in the One who redeemed us. The One who promised that He has gone to prepare a place for us and that He will come back for us.

“…Amen. Even so, come Lord Jesus!” Revelations 22:20 (NKJV)

Stay blessed,

Alex
