The Guessing Game

Standing at the airport security waiting for your bags to go through the scanner, have you ever felt you are in a guessing game? Unsure whether your bag or luggage would go straight through the scanning machine for an immediate pickup.  Or would shift to the side, away from you and require an extended search by the airport officials. Sometimes no matter how much you prepare your bag or luggage for travelling and the airport scanning process, you are just unsure of what the scanning machine will pick up.

My most recent experience at the airport, I watched my bag pause as it exited the scanner, I held my breath and prayed it came straight down and not slide to the left. Where I have to wait in line for my bag to be searched.

The experience got me thinking about God. He doesn’t play a guessing game with us. He tells us exactly what he wants from us through His word – the Bible and sometimes confirms it through other ways. For example, He says there is no other way to Him except through Christ – John 14:6. It’s not through good works, sacrifices, baptism or confirmation. It’s by accepting the one sacrifice that has already been made by Jesus Christ on the cross.

Therefore when you die, hoping that you’ve done enough to make it to heaven, isn’t God’s plan. There is no purgatory or place where you wait for a decision to be made on where you spend eternity. The decision is made before you leave this earth and it’s made by you! It comes down to one question – Do you accept Christ or not?

That is just one example  of God giving us instructions, here are a few more:

  • ‘Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the Lord your God is giving you.’ Exodus 20:12 (NLT) and Ephesians 6:2–3
  • Best place to store your treasures. Matthew 6:19–20
  • How to be truly blessed, the Beatitude. Matthew 5:3–12
  • Give, and you will receive. Luke 6:38

You can find God’s heart in His words. He doesn’t play games with us or change his promises like men. The bible says, ‘God is not a man that he should lie,’(Num. 23:19) and he loves us dearly. So be encouraged, read your bible, study and practice it and then watch God fulfil his promises to you.

By the way, my luggage did slide to the left and the culprit on this occasion was my kindle, which was turned off. I wonder what it will be next time!

Stay blessed,

Lara
