But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness. They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. — Romans 1:18-21 NLT
When we see the level of evil, corruption, and injustice in our world today, you cannot but ask if God has a say about these issues. In all these chaos and problems, it is not uncommon for people to ask where God is or if God really exist.
Man was born with a deep hunger and desire to know and worship God, even the atheist has this intrinsic hunger and desire. The problem has always been that man chooses to suppress and reject the truth about God as the Creator of the universe, who deserves our worship. Mankind suppresses the truth of God by fighting against and disregarding every truth revealed by Him to man.
The truth is that God has never left man without the knowledge and revelation of Himself, so really, man has no excuse to doubt, deny or reject God. Everyone is held responsible for what they believe including their refusal to acknowledge what God has revealed to them of Himself for example, as seen in creation.
It is not that man doesn’t know God; the problem is that man chooses to suppress this truth by refusing to worship and glorify Him as God or even give Him thanks. Man chooses to resist and oppose God by holding on to their philosophies, thoughts, and beliefs.
To suppress the truth, man puts God to the test for the purpose of approving Him based on our criteria or specifications. And if God does not meet those specifications, we disapprove Him as the God that deserves to be worshipped. Instead of worshipping and glorifying God, some transform their idea of Him into forms and images more suited to their corrupt minds.
When man rejects the truth about God, he goes on to invent his own idea of a god who fits with his ideologies and philosophies. He invents an all-accepting, all-inclusive god who accepts and accommodates all manner of thoughts, beliefs, ideals and practices conceived by man. No wonder our world is so messed up with so much confusion, chaos, moral and spiritual decadence.
Humanity erroneously and perhaps foolishly thinks that by adopting their conceived belief systems, they can disprove the existence of God!
The handiwork of God, and His invisible attributes are seen all around us, so there’s no excuse for suppressing, doubting, denying or rejecting the existence of God.
