He’s Your Keeper

The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore. — Psalm 121: 7-8 ESV

Going through Psalm 121 these past few weeks, I noticed how I have highlighted the whole chapter into four sections of two verses. And today we are looking at the last two verses, “The Lord will keep you from all evil…”

You might think that I’m contradicting myself here. A few weeks ago, I mentioned that we are in a fallen world, therefore we are not immune to bad incidences or situations as Christians or children of God.

However, in the midst of uncomfortable situations, God never fails to keep us safe. And while keeping us, He ensures that we are not completely destroyed as the devil would like. When God allows things to happen in our lives, He has a reason and one thing is for sure—as soon as we are in His will—He will be glorified.

We may not know or understand the reason why God allows some negative things to happen in our lives. But one thing we can be sure of, is that as long as we’re alive, we’re in His perfect plan because He promised that He’ll never leave nor forsake us.

“For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.” Psalm 91:3–4 (NLT)

“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” Romans 8:28 (NLT)

Job’s life is a prime example of God’s protection. Even though He permitted the devil to attack Job, he had a limit. I believe in the same way God protects and keeps us from the full rampage of the devil.

Remember John 10:10 (NLT), “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy…” and that thief is the devil who manifests these characteristics in various disguises. But God showcases our lives to him and says, “Have you observed my sons and daughters, who are washed in the blood of Christ?” and that alone infuriates the devil.

“…God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13 (ESV)

No matter the challenge we may be going through right now, God’s got us! The LORD God has your back. He is your Keeper!

Stay blessed,
