He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. — Psalm 121:3-4 ESV
In the last blog, we looked at verses 1 and 2 of Psalm 121 and today we will focus on verses 3 and 4 of the same Psalm.

This week during my drive back from work, Psalm 121 was read over the radio and verses 3 and 4 caught my attention: “He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber…”
When bad things happen like a natural disaster or an incident taking many lives, we often hear people say things like: “Why did God let it happen?” or “Where was God, when this was happening?”
To be honest, sometimes when unpleasant things happen in our life we do wonder where God is and ask questions like: “God, why are you letting this happen to me?” However, the truth is God is right there with us at all times—in both the good and bad times. “Our God is in the heavens; He does all that He pleases” Psalm 115:3 (ESV). In all seasons of our lives, He ensures that our feet are steady in Him and they are not moved.
Even the writers of the Psalms had similar feelings:
“Hear my prayer, O Lord; let my cry come to you! Do not hide your face from me in the day of my distress! Incline your ear to me; answer me speedily in the day when I call!” Psalm 102:1-2 (ESV)
“O Lord, why do you cast my soul away? Why do you hide your face from me? Afflicted and close to death from my youth up, I suffer your terrors; I am helpless.” Psalm 88:14 – 15 (ESV)
These two verses show that this feeling is not new to us, those of old felt it too. However, in their despair, they leant into God and looked up to Him expectantly, they didn’t pull away from him.
Likewise, in our distress and troubling seasons, we shouldn’t let doubt set in. Don’t doubt God’s love for you or His presence in your life or situation. That’s what the enemy (the devil) wants you to do. Instead, press into God, pray and stand on His promises over your situation because God doesn’t sleep, He is wide awake looking out for you every day!
Therefore, praise God for His faithfulness and steadfast love over you. As you go into a new week and a new month, let that confidence resound deep in your heart.
Stay blessed,
