For the Lord your God has blessed you in everything you have done. He has watched your every step through this great wilderness. During these forty years, the Lord your God has been with you, and you have lacked nothing. — Deuteronomy 2:7 NLT
On the night of the New Year, as I laid in bed, a thought dropped into my mind: “What does 2025 hold for me?” I have never worried or had a thought like this regarding the New Year before. But maybe the events of last year have made me cautious about things — I’m not sure!
Many people make a habit of doing everything they can to know what the future or New Year holds for them. This leads them to seek out horoscopes, fortune tellers, false prophets, and so on. The information revealed to them can make them depressed, worried, fearful, and maybe, on occasions excited.
However, as Christians, we can’t live in fear of the future and don’t need to run around trying to find predictions either. “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.” Deuteronomy 29:29 (ESV)
God will reveal to us things we need to know if we ask and pay attention to His leading because He said: “Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” Jeremiah 33:3 (ESV)
This doesn’t mean that He will show us everything we want to know. He will only reveal the things we need to know and the rest of the time we just need to follow His lead in faith. He knows us and what we can handle and what we can’t handle, especially if too much information is revealed to us. And when unexpected events take place as a Good Father and an All-knowing God, He has equipped us to handle such circumstances through His Word – the Bible, the Holy Spirit, the Church, family and friends.
I love a hymn we used to sing years back titled, “I Know Who Holds Tomorrow”. Here are some of the lyrics:
I don’t know about tomorrow,
I just live from day to day.
I don’t borrow from its sunshine,
For its skies may turn to grey.
I don’t worry o’er the future,
For I know what Jesus said,
And today I’ll walk beside Him,
For He knows what is ahead.
Refrain:
Many things about tomorrow,
I don’t seem to understand;
But I know who holds tomorrow,
And I know who holds my hand.
So, if you are worried about 2025, don’t be. He knows you are going through this great wilderness and He will make sure you lack nothing. He has got you in His hands and you are safe!
Once again, Happy New Year and stay blessed,
LaraLex
