Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually! — Psalm 105:4 ESV
This time of the year is normally buzzing with the excitement of Christmas and New Year celebrations. Most organisations, businesses and churches prepare to celebrate this time of the year in one way or another. Some celebrate Christmas for the right reason, to mark the birth of Jesus Christ and others not so much.

Some ignore the Christmas side of the holidays and just focus on the New Year looming ahead. Whether the year has been good or not, some just want to see its end and hope that the New Year will hold something better.
Personally, it will be the first time I’m approaching the end of the year with a sense of loss and a hint of sadness. And I’ve come to the realisation that many out there, year in year out will be in similar positions. This sadness or loss can take many forms – the loss of a loved one, ill health, family or business issues the list can go on and on.
As Christians, we are not immune to the world’s problems. However, due to the hope that Jesus has given us, we always have to approach our loss, sadness and problems differently. Jesus said:
“I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]” John 16:33 (AMPC)
As humans, Christians or not, we like to do things our own way. We like to demonstrate our independence and cherish showcasing what we have achieved and what we can do. But sooner or later, everything we have or have acquired will either fade away or fail us. No matter how much money one has, it can’t always give you peace of mind. With money, you might access excellent healthcare facilities but not necessarily healing or good health.
We shouldn’t wait till we hit rock bottom before we seek God. Instead, like the psalmist suggests we should seek God’s presence continually. No matter our season in life, we are encouraged to seek Him – whether in joy, comfort, sadness, pain, plenty or scarcity.
There is a limit to people’s help and support. And sometimes, no matter how much they try and help, it isn’t often enough or sufficient. But with God, there is no limit to His strength and resources. That is the strength and resource we need all the time, not just in times of trouble and we can only get this in His presence.
Stay blessed,
