For kingship belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations. — Psalm 22: 28 ESV

When you sit down to watch or listen to the news these days, if you are like me, it can be quite depressing. All over the world, much of the news today is about wars, killings, natural disasters, economic crises. The world seems to be dissolving into chaos with no sign of peace anywhere.
In times like these, you might want to question God and ask why He isn’t doing anything to solve these issues. After all, He is the Creator of the universe and Lord of all!
If you are conversant with your Bible, you are most likely aware that the possibility of things getting better is very slim. And that is not very comforting.
“And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don’t panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won’t follow immediately. Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world. But all this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come.” Matthew 24: 6-8 (ESV)
“You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred.” 2 Timothy 3:1-2 (ESV)
Looking at the state of the world today, we can relate to what Jesus said in Matthew 24 and Paul’s letter to Timothy. So, how do we find peace in the midst of all the chaos?
Even though it might not look like it, God is in control.
“‘My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,’ says the Lord. ‘And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.’” Isaiah 55:8-9 (ESV)
“The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.” 2 Peter 3:9 (ESV)
God has a plan. He knows what He’s doing. As humans, we might not fully understand it, but we can trust Him and that’s where we will find peace.
“The Lord rules over the floodwaters. The Lord reigns as king forever. The Lord gives his people strength. The Lord blesses them with peace.” Psalm 29:10 -11 (ESV)
“‘I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.’” John 14:27 (ESV)
“‘I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.’” John 16:33 (ESV)
Jesus Christ is coming back to deal with the problem of sin, corruption, and wickedness once and for all. In the meantime, we can trust in His promise of peace and His Kingship.
Stay blessed,
