Our Advocate (Part 2)

My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.1 John 2:1-2 NLT

We have an Advocate in Christ Jesus who intercedes and pleads our cause before God. But before Jesus advocates for us, we must first confess our sins and acknowledge Him as Lord over our lives.

In the law, without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sin. Jesus has perfected this practice by shedding His blood on the Cross for the sins of the world, for those who believe.

The truth is God’s righteous law pronounces us guilty on all counts for violating His standards and rejecting His right to rule over our lives. However, the advocacy of Jesus for believers is that Jesus represents us and pleads our case before the court of God. “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,” 1 Timothy 2:5 (NKJV)

No earthly legal expert is qualified or experienced enough to represent us before the court of God. As believers, no amount of work, performance or self-righteousness can acquit us before God. But thanks be to God, the Father appoints His own Son Jesus Christ as our defence attorney.

Jesus, as our advocate, does not share our sinful nature and problem. This is so because He’s the only righteous one whose sinlessness qualified Him to stand before the Father and plead our cause. This is made possible because He paid our debt on the Cross, and His shed blood continues to cleanse us today – Praise God!

When Satan brings an accusation against us, the Lord Jesus represents us as our Advocate and our attorney. He can point to His finished work on the Cross at Calvary and say, “It’s all paid for, charge that to My account!” We are acquitted of all charges and set free to have a joyous fellowship with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

We have this confidence and assurance that no accusation can stand against the redeemed whose sins have been forgiven through the sacrificial death of Christ. The blood of Jesus meets and covers every charge that Satan brings against us.

“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” Hebrews 4:16 (NLT)

The strength and victory of the Church against the wiles of the devil, is in having our Lord Jesus Christ as our Advocate and Captain of our salvation. So, let’s approach the Throne of Grace where there’s atonement for our sins and we find abundant grace for life’s issues.

Stay blessed,

LaraLex
