In Partnership

And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” – Luke 5:5 ESV

In the last few weeks, we discussed how God can establish the work of our hands and intervene in our lives in miraculous ways when we invite Him. However, it will require stepping out in faith and trusting just like the widow and Simon did.

This week, we will focus on partnership. For God to intervene in our lives, we have to work in partnership with Him. A partnership is described as working together on a joint venture. For a partnership to work, partners need to communicate and trust each other and follow or act on instructions given.

We know that God hears us when we call and thankfully, He does speak to us in return. The question however is, do we hear and listen to Him when He talks to us?

You may be wondering how or in what ways God speaks to us.  “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.” Hebrews 1:1-2 (ESV)

First and foremost, He speaks to us through His written Word – the Bible, which should be the foundation and standard of all our decisions. As God appointed Jesus the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world, we believe God can use anything to speak to us even through any of His creations.

Sometimes He communicates through dreams, visions, people and so on. He sometimes speaks through circumstances, events, and unlikely sources—remember the donkey in the Bible? Sometimes through an impression on your heart or a recurring thought.

Some people might hear God in many ways while others, not so many. However God chooses to speak to us, what we hear must always line up with His will and His written Word because the Bible is our plumbline.

When we are sure that God is giving us instructions, the next thing is being ready to obey and step out in faith. The Israelites had to step forward in faith into the departing Red Sea to escape the Egyptians. The widow had to collect empty vessels and follow the instructions given to her. And Simon had to drop his fishing net even though to him, it wasn’t the right time to get a catch.

In a partnership, all partners must commit to doing their part and God is always committed to doing His part. So, just like the widow, Simon, the Israelites and many others in the Bible who experienced God’s intervention, let us cooperate with God by trusting and obeying Him.

Stay blessed,
