O Lord our God, let your sweet beauty rest upon us. Come work with us, and then our works will endure; you will give us success in all we do. – Psalm 90:17 TPT

We are now well and truly into the year 2024! I wonder how you are doing with your New Year’s Resolution, if you made one. Many start the new year making resolutions but only a few follow them through to the end of the year. Surprisingly, I recently found out there is a “Quitter’s Day”, it’s the second Friday of January when most people give up on their resolutions.
There are good intentions behind making resolutions, most of the time it’s the desire to be better or do better. However, as Christians, we need to remember to involve God in all we do and ensure we are doing it for His glory. “So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31 (NLT)
Also, Proverbs 3:5-7 (NLT) says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil.”
I love verse 6, “Seek his will in all you do…”, take in the words, “in all” – it doesn’t matter the type of task or activity. It could be big or small, paid or unpaid, it could be in the church or community, seek God’s will and He promises to direct us. Remember, He knows the end from the beginning and nothing fazes Him.
Psalm 37: 5 (NLT) says, “Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.”
Often, we have a predetermined mindset of how we think a matter or problem is to be solved. We sometimes look at ways of the secular world and how things are done there and expect our case to follow a similar path.
When you invite God to help, don’t expect Him to help in the “normal” or usual way. “‘For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,’ says the Lord” Isaiah 55:8 (NKJV). You need to be expectant and allow God to lead you to do things differently, to surprise you and glorify His name. But you must be willing to obey and follow His leading.
God designed the earth with days, weeks, months and years for a reason. I believe one of the reasons is an opportunity for us to be reflective on life. In Genesis, as God was creating the earth on many occasions the Bible says, “…And God saw that it was good” Genesis 1: 4, 9, 12, 18, 21 (NLT). God reflected on what He had done at the end of each day and it is an example for us to follow. We, however, shouldn’t only reflect but make changes and adjustments where necessary.
“So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom” Psalm 90:12 (NLT). As you make those adjustments and changes, ask for God’s guidance, wisdom and blessings and don’t wait for a new year or month. Whenever you start God is ready to support and bless you. Say just like the Psalmist, “Lord, come work with me.”
There are loads of examples of God’s intervention in people’s lives in the Bible. We will discuss a couple of these examples in the next blog.
Stay blessed,
