My child, don’t lose sight of common sense and discernment. Hang on to them, for they will refresh your soul. They are like jewels on a necklace. They keep you safe on your way, and your feet will not stumble. You can go to bed without fear; you will lie down and sleep soundly. – Proverbs 3:21-24 NLT

I know of family members and friends who struggle to sleep at night with conditions such as Sleep Apnoea and Insomnia. These conditions are very serious and can be debilitating for those who suffer with them.
What keeps you awake at night? Are you worried about tomorrow, your work, health, or money? Do you go to bed and just can’t help reliving and reviving old painful memories and digging up old bones?
Sleep is a gift from God. Nothing better than working hard during the day and being able to settle down to enjoy a refreshing good night’s sleep without worry, anxiety or fear. “People who work hard sleep well, whether they eat little or much…” Ecclesiastes 5:12 (NLT)
Several passages in the Bible talk about the blessing, promise, joy and benefits of a peaceful good night’s sleep. For example:
– “I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustained me.” Psalms 3:5 (NKJV).
– “I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.” Psalms 4:8 (NKJV).
– “I will give you peace in the land, and you will be able to sleep with no cause for fear…” Leviticus 26:6 (NLT)
We cannot go wrong with sound judgement and true spiritual discernment that places confident trust in the LORD and His Word. That’s why I strongly believe one of the ways to enjoy a good night’s sleep is to go to bed with a clear and good conscience. To enjoy a good night’s sleep, it is vitally important to resolve any misunderstandings with people and to deal with any sinful issues in us.
What is your source of wisdom and how sustainable is this source? Are you getting wisdom from the right people, from the right sources that produces the best and desired results?
Living in God’s wisdom enables us to go to bed at night and sleep soundly and in peace. By exercising sound judgement and discernment, we can confidently lay down to sleep without being afraid of the terrors by night because God who keeps us never slumbers or sleeps. No need to worry and double or even triple-check the locks on the doors, monitor our bank balances, or think about how to respond to someone who has wronged us.
None of us have the power to awaken ourselves. That we wake up in the morning after a refreshing peaceful night’s sleep, is a testimony of the goodness of God. When we remember how many there are who go to sleep to wake no more, we should be full of gratitude to God the Giver and Sustainer of life.
Stay blessed,
