True Wisdom

“Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.” – Proverbs 9:10 NLT

We are in an information age. Since the inception of the internet, information has become readily available at our fingertips and the click of a button. Our exposure to the world wide web means our knowledge of certain topics and subjects has increased greatly and, in many ways, advantageous.

In the book of Daniel, there is a prophecy about the last days and the clamour for knowledge – “This is a confidential report, Daniel, for your eyes and ears only. Keep it secret. Put the book under lock and key until the end. In the interim there is going to be a lot of frantic running around, trying to figure out what’s going on.” Daniel 12:4 (MSG)

With internet search engines and the recent AI Chatbot ‘ChatGPT’, you only need to search for a topic or subject and a flood of information is displayed. The question however is, has the increase in information and knowledge helped make this world a better place? Has it helped in reducing crime, divorce, poverty, and other socio-economic problems?

The answer is probably, No! If anything, it can be argued that the exposure to information and increase in knowledge have exacerbated the socio-economic issues in our world today.

To get true wisdom, there’s only one source – God! – “…do people know where to find wisdom? Where can they find understanding? …God alone understands the way to wisdom; he knows where it can be found…And this is what he says to all humanity: ‘The fear of the Lord is true wisdom; to forsake evil is real understanding.’” Job 28: 20, 23, 28 (NLT)

In the book of James, it says – “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5 (NIV)

The wisdom referred to here is not that of philosophical, oratory, rhetorical and speculative speaking or writing. James is referring to the wisdom that reflects the pure truths of God’s will that is revealed in His inerrant Holy Word.

Knowledge without the application of true wisdom is a recipe for chaos and disaster.

“Who among you is wise and intelligent? Let him by his good conduct show his [good] deeds with the gentleness and humility of true wisdom. But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not be arrogant, and [as a result] be in defiance of the truth. This [superficial] wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly (secular), natural (unspiritual), even demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder [unrest, rebellion] and every evil thing and morally degrading practice. But the wisdom from above is first pure [morally and spiritually undefiled], then peace-loving [courteous, considerate], gentle, reasonable [and willing to listen], full of compassion and good fruits. It is unwavering, without [self-righteous] hypocrisy [and self-serving guile].” James 3:13-17 (AMP)

Today, pursue and get true wisdom.

Stay blessed,
