I pondered the direction of my life, and I turned to follow your laws. — Psalms 119:59 NLT

Have you been on a journey driving or being driven and had to make a U-turn because you missed the way? If you are like me, terrible at navigating roads even with the aid of a satellite navigation system, you will agree that U-turns are absolutely necessary. If not, you will likely end up miles away from your intended destination.
Making a U-turn on a promise, a plan or a project can be embarrassing and humiliating and may reveal a weakness or poor judgement on our part. No wonder some people would choose to carry on the wrong path rather than do the needful and make a U-turn or re-evaluate their decision.
I will rather be embarrassed, humiliated and shamed for making a U-turn than let my actions or decisions cause many to be disadvantaged or suffer.
To repent or make a U-turn is to change your mind, your direction and your actions. The parable of the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-24 is a very good example. It shows why believers should never be ashamed to make a U-turn when we get it wrong..
In the parable, after the young man had wasted his inheritance and was desperate and destitute, he had a change of mind. “When he finally came to his senses, he said to himself…I will go home to my father and say, ‘Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you’…so he returned home to his father.” Luke 15:17-20 (NLT)
When we realise the path we’re on is leading us far away from the LORD, the sensible thing to do is repent and make a U-turn.
God’s standard is enshrined in His word. It is imperative that we now and again think about our ways to ensure we’re compliant with God’s standard. This will help us remain on the path of righteousness. If we develop this habit, we will know complete freedom.
God’s word is our roadmap, our guide, a blueprint, a compass and a beacon. I have found that the Holy Spirit always points and guides us back on the right path when we stray. If we are obedient and abide in God’s word, making U-turns shouldn’t be onerous.
This is what the Psalmist say about the word of God: “The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are clear, giving insight for living. Reverence for the Lord is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the Lord are true; each one is fair. They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb. They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them.” Psalms 19:7-11 (NLT)
