When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.” “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear!– Luke 5:4-6 NLT

God is sovereign. This means that He has an absolute right to govern His creation as He pleases. God has perfect knowledge, perfect wisdom and perfect power with which He controls everything.
God orders everything, regulates all things, controls everything and rules over everything. With Him, nothing happens by blind chance.
The Bible is full of prophecies. A series of events will happen that will lead to the fulfilment of these prophecies. Some have already been fulfilled, we are on the cusps of some of them right now while others are in the future.
Some of these events will have no direct connection with the prophetic words but God will use these events to accomplish His will. Some of the events will not be pleasant experiences. In fact, some of the events will test our faith, our tolerance, our resilience and our love for each other.
When such times come, we must stand together, we must encourage each other. It should not be the time to abandon the ship. It should not be the time to judge, complain or walk away from your family. It should not be the time to think the grass is greener on the other side. Or the time to make God your enemy.
We must give room for God to orchestrate things His own way. There’s always the danger or temptation of wanting to look back on what we’ve achieved in the past and apply yesterday’s grace, yesterday’s strategy, and yesterday’s strength to fulfil today’s tasks.
Peter was a seasoned fisherman. Apparently, the best time to fish is at night. When Peter said they have toiled all night but caught nothing, he may have been thinking within himself what does a carpenter know about fishing? He could have easily dismissed Jesus’ words based on his experience as a fisherman but instead heeded His instruction.
We must never be quick to rule out anyone or any idea just because they don’t fit in with what we are used to. There’s danger when we become comfortable in what we know, what we have and how we operate that we reject ideas that do not fit. Let’s not forget that God is sovereign. He can use any person, or circumstance to accomplish His purpose.
Do you have an idea that has been burning in your heart? Be bold and step out in faith, speak to the right people. Never be intimidated by their experience and perceived success or frustrated by their lack of interest or support.
As the pillar of cloud moved ahead of the Israelites, so is God moving ahead of us. Let’s not lag behind, let’s not watch from a distance. Let’s make ourselves available, let’s get involved.
Stay blessed,
