Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? – Matthew 6:26 (ESV)

Observing the events of our days, it is easy to see the main concern of the world around us – the increase in the cost of living. This concern is on everyone’s lips, it’s all over the news and we feel it everywhere we turn from the fuelling stations to the grocery stores. However, the nations are looking to their leaders to ease the pressure that is being felt across the world. But can these leaders really help their countries?
As Christians who do we look up to? Do we join the millions of people looking up to the government? Or do we look up to God? The Psalmist says: “I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” Psalms 121: 1-2 (ESV).
I recently watched a few episodes of the BBC program, “Our Planet” and the order of the universe amazed me. For every creature that God made, He made provision for every single one – from the smallest fish of the seas to the largest animal that walks the earth. And none of them can go extinct without His say so! If God cares so much for all the things He has created, how much more is His care for us, who are created in His own image.
“But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and green and tomorrow is tossed into the furnace, will He not much more surely clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not worry and be anxious, saying, What are we going to have to eat? or, What are we going to have to drink? or, What are we going to have to wear? For the Gentiles (heathen) wish for and crave and diligently seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows well that you need them all.” Matthew 6: 30 -32 (AMPC)
Genesis chapter 26 tells the story of Isaac and the famine that was in the land at the time. “And the Lord appeared to him and said, ‘Do not go down to Egypt; dwell in the land of which I shall tell you. Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you and will bless you…’” Verse 2-3 (ESV)
Isaac obeyed. “So Isaac settled in Gerar…And Isaac sowed in that land and reaped in the same year a hundredfold. The Lord blessed him, and the man became rich, and gained more and more until he became very wealthy.” Genesis 26: 6, 12-13 (ESV)
Isaac reaped bountifully in a land where there was famine, and it was because he trusted God. This is the same God we can trust today to provide our every need. As He provides for us, we need to remember not to be wasteful.
There are many stories and promises in the Bible that remind us of God’s power to provide for His people. We just need to obey and trust him to do the same for us today.
“And my God will liberally supply (fill to the full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19 (AMPC)
It will be encouraging to hear your testimony of God’s amazing provision in your life or in the life of someone you know. Your comments are highly appreciated.
Stay blessed,
