No human wisdom or understanding or plan can stand against the Lord. Proverbs 21:30 (NLT)
It’s very easy these days to think that God is not in control of the world anymore. This is so because of all the atrocities that man is committing and seem to get away with them. However, on reading today’s scripture and recently some bible stories, I am reminded that God is fully in control.
He has His reasons for letting things play out for so long and we would never fully understand His ways on this side of life.
“‘My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,’ says the Lord. ‘And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.’” Isaiah 55: 8-9 NLT
Also, 2 Peter 3:9 (NLT) says, “The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed but wants everyone to repent.”
One way or another we have seen man (this includes women) try and work against God or overturn His plans, but each time they fail miserably. Here are some biblical examples and there are many more.
In Genesis 11, we read about the Tower of Babel, we see how man works together as one to build a tower that gets to the heavens. They intended to contradict God’s command— “Go and multiply.” “And they said, ‘Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.’” Genesis 11:4 (NKJV)
But once God saw man’s determination and commitment to the tower, He took control and disrupted their plans by introducing different languages.
There is also the story of Balak and Balaam (Numbers chapters 22 – 24). Balak was terrified of the Israelites, obviously hearing the news of what God did for them in Egypt and beyond. Taking a new tactic instead of fighting them, he decided to have Israel cursed by employing the services of Balaam. Balaam was determined to please Balak but instead of cursing Israel, he was forced to bless them. You simply cannot curse those whom God has blessed.
Haman in the book of Esther is another example of a man who tried to use his position to outsmart God. He planned Israel’s annihilation, but that plan led to his own destruction instead.
For this time of the year, I love the story of King Herod and baby Jesus. Herod heard the news of the birth of Jesus through the wise men and was troubled, to the extent of killing baby boys two years and under in and around Bethlehem. What insecurities he must have to kill babies to secure his throne! But God already knew Herod’s thoughts and made plans to rescue baby Jesus in advance.
Pride was the reason for Satan’s downfall. He still uses that tool today to set people up against God. Pride makes man think that he can outsmart God because of his wealth, power, knowledge, and wisdom—this is a delusion!
Suffice to say that God always wins in the end. We’ll talk more about this in later blogs.
Merry Christmas and stay blessed,
