After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child. Luke 2:17(NLT)
The first time this title came to mind, it was at the beginning of the first national lockdown in the country and the world was reeling from the effect of the pandemic. It has been a time we have never experienced before and never thought we could experience, especially with how advanced we have got with science and technology.
Nevertheless, God allowed it to happen for a reason. He is showing us that He is God, and it doesn’t take much to throw the human race off course. It is a strange time for us all and there is definitely a reason for it.
However, I came across Luke 2:17 recently, it tells the story of the shepherds in the field. After an angel appeared to them proclaiming the birth of Jesus, they searched out the baby. On seeing him, the Bible says they told everyone what happened and further in verse 20, it says, “They went back to their flocks, glorifying and praising God for all they have seen and heard.”
Even though Christmas is an annual seasonal event, the world sees it as a time to party and an opportunity to buy and sell. But for Christians, it is more than that.
Just like the shepherds, we have seen and tasted of the goodness of God. And just like them, we are charged to tell others of what we have experienced and are experiencing daily. This can be our story of salvation and how God is still performing miracles in our lives today.
Most importantly, we have to continually show our gratitude to God and praise him for everything He is doing in our lives—that in itself is a powerful testimony. The Psalmist said, “I will praise the Lord at all times, I will constantly speak His praises.” Psalms 34:1 (NLT).
We ought to praise and thank God for sending His Son to be born like man, to live among us and die on the cross for our redemption. Praise Him for the gift of life, for His healing power, for His Holy Spirit that guards and guides us, for His provision and kindness, the list goes on.
Even though we might be celebrating Christmas a little differently this year because of the restrictions. Let us remember that this season is about Christ—the Precious Gift of God to mankind. So, as we celebrate and exchange gifts, let us tell others about the Wonderful Gift and praise God for it. And not only in this season but always!
