Don’t Wait!

Don’t brag about tomorrow, since you don’t know what the day will bring. Proverbs 27:1 (NLT)

While watching the first episode of the Crown’s new season, I was struck by an incident that happened. An argument occurred between Prince Charles and his uncle – Lord Mountbatten over the phone. On ending the conversation, even though Lord Mountbatten had plans for the day and his family was putting him under pressure, he resisted the urge to be rushed. Instead, he sat down, wrote a letter to his nephew, and requested it is delivered to him as he left. Hours later, while fishing at sea there was an explosion on the vessel, and he was killed.

That day, he could have decided, he already had plans and would write the letter when he gets back from his fishing trip but as events of the day would have it, he would not have had the opportunity to write it.

The bible tells us, “not to brag about tomorrow, since we don’t know what the day will bring.” To be honest, we do not know what the next hour will bring, nonetheless days. Therefore, we need to live wisely and try as much as possible to seize every opportunity given to us.

Even the Psalmist prayed, “Teach us to realise the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.” Psalms 90:12 (NLT).

I don’t know about you; I do procrastinate and it’s an area I’m praying about and working on. Procrastination can mean missed opportunities to tell someone the good news of Christ, to apologise, or bless someone with words of encouragement. Or to get a better job or make important business connections. Or even save your family or yourself from harm or disaster. Overall, you can miss out on God’s blessings.

When God speaks to you or lays something on your heart, He expects you to respond immediately and not linger or debate what action to take, like Jonah. He expects us to be like the Psalmist and say, “I will hurry, without delay, to obey your command.” Psalms 119:60 (NLT).

What do you have to do today or this week? Get on and do it because you can’t say when your last day or hour will be. “Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.” James 4:15 (ESV).

Stay blessed,

Lara
